Monty Daren Fertig

October 12, 1961 — February 13, 2025

Cheyenne

The world lost a dear, sweet soul when our dear son, brother, uncle and friend, Monty Daren Fertig passed from this world in a house fire on February 13, 2025. He was a loved and cherished member of a large family which included his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. His life revolved around work and family.  The first-born child of Dean and Jayne Fertig, he was born on October 12, 1961.

He grew up in the Worldwide Church of God and was baptized into the church as a young man.  His faith was an important part of his life. He also loved growing things, being out in nature, cooking, and collecting unusual items at flea markets; an activity he called "running the river".  He always dreamed of opening a little "hole in the wall" steakhouse where he could serve and feed those whose company he enjoyed.

He grew up working with his dad and brothers in the family construction business and later for his Uncle Rays commercial construction company, 5R, in Cheyenne. His best and longtime friends were members of his family and those men and women he worked with in the trades. He was a hard worker and well known for his precision carpentry but will be long remembered and missed for his big heart, his quick wit and unmatched sense of humor and affinity for animals of all kinds, especially strays or a wounded animal he found along the way.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Alex and Fern Fertig, Harriett and Bill Rizor, his father, Monte Dean Fertig, and an infant brother who passed at birth.

He is survived by his mother, Jayne, sister Janea (Mike) of Coeur d Alene, ID, brother Kevin (Julie Ann) of Rathdrum, ID, sister Julie (Bryan) of Cheyenne, sister Rebecca (Matt) of Sheridan and brother Derek of Casper.  He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and by coworkers and friends who loved him dearly.  A Celebration of Life will be held later in the summer of 2025 in Cheyenne.
