A funerals service will be conducted at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. An interment service will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens with a reception at the church to follow. Myrtle Lorraine Jacobson died June 21, 2010, at the Life Care Center in Cheyenne Wyoming. She was born to Carl Arthur and Alida Cecilia Chingren on January 19, 1927, at Boxholm, Iowa. Her great and pure love emanated from God through the foundation of her faith and family that will continue to shine upon us evermore. She was the last member of the Greatest Generation of our family. She was born of Swedish immigrants on a farm in Boone County, Iowa, where she dreamed of becoming a teacher and in due course won a major county spelling bee and graduated valedictorian of Grant Community High School. After working in Des Moines, Iowa, she married her brother’s best friend, Lee Jacobson, after World War II, as he was overwhelmed by the beautiful young woman she had become after his return from the war. Building opportunities moved them to Cheyenne in 1956 and once established, she began working in the school administration at McCormick Junior High School and finished her career as the principal secretary at Central High School in the 90s and following began working in the state legislature for several years. Her work ethic and morals were as strong as humanly possible. Her gifts of hospitality and optimism were testament to her faith and her family and every event from birthdays to weddings and picnics were truly a celebration of those moral anchors in her life. She and Lee were committed members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since moving to Cheyenne and served in many ministries there including a favorite of singing duets with her husband. She enjoyed many things in her life like bridge groups, retired teacher’s luncheons, traveling with friends and most of all family trips, camping and picnics. Her thread wove itself through the tapestry of many peoples’ lives who where attracted to her infectious personality, laughter and subtle, but powerful love that shined though for others as she seldom talked about herself and never complained about her own trials. Her favorite passage from the Bible is Psalms 118.24. She is survived by four children, Connie and Steve (Degn) of Salt Lake City, UT, Cathie and Steve (Heuer) of Arvada, CO, Tom and (Kathleen Kreider) of Cheyenne and Carol and Scot (McLellan) of Visalia, CA. Her grandchildren are Troy, Jenny & (Levi), Jeni & (Russ), Mark & (Kara), Theresa, Andy, Brianna, Ian, Kirsten, Annaliese and Karina plus 6 great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lee Jacobson in 1986.
