Nancy Jane Barker, 83, passed away July 7, 2012. She was born October 29, 1928, in Providence, Rhode Island. Nancy came first to Wyoming with her family in the late 1930s. Her father, Colonel Clarence Barker, was a camp commander for the CCC's at various locations around the state. Nancy attended schools in Cody, Douglas, Rawlins and Saratoga prior to the outbreak of World War II. During the war and afterwards, she finished school in Virginia and California, eventually earning a degree from the University of California - Santa Barbara. She began as a teacher in California but wanderlust struck soon thereafter and she began a forty plus year teaching career with the Department of Defense at American Schools all over the world, including England, North Africa, Japan, Okinawa, Midway Island and Germany. She was never married. She retired to Carlsbad, California, in 1994, where she resided until moving to assisted living at Pointe Frontier in Cheyenne in 2006. She is survived by two brothers, Richard Barker and wife, Linda, of Cheyenne, and Robert Barker and wife, Virginia, of El Cajon, California; a nephew, James Barker of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; and a niece, Susan Jarvis of San Diego, California. A private family service will be held in California at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.
