Nick Lagos

November 12, 1913 — October 20, 2011

Nick C. Lagos (known to almost everyone as "Uncle Nick") of Cheyenne passed away at Davis Hospice Center on Thursday, October 20. He was born the fourth of eight children in Hartville to Greek immigrant parents on November 12, 1913. Nick lived in the Hartville/Sunrise area, for most of his life where his family owned a grocery store and bakery. He married Olga Corolla on June 18, 1938. He worked at the C F & I iron ore mine in Sunrise from 1933 to 1975. After retiring he moved to Guernsey where he drove the school bus and also the activity bus for sports until 1981. He was a referee for many basketball events and was always willing to help young boys (particularly his nephews) with their athletic endeavors. He coached and umpired for many years in the Guernsey Little League. Nick enjoyed bowling, and all sports, particularly baseball. As a young man he was recruited to play baseball in Missouri in 1933. Due to economic times he was unable to follow his dream. He was a very caring man and loved spending time with his family. He was very active up until his 92nd birthday. He walked or rode a bike everyday and continued to "work out" at Pointe Frontier up until six weeks before his death. He is survived by his two daughters, Georgia Munoz (Fidel) of Albuquerque and Connie Allen (Jerry) of Perth, Australia; brother William of Denver; grandchildren, Roxanne Barr (David) of Cheyenne, Jeff Bibbey (Paula) of Albuquerque, Tony Allen (Natalie) and Mark Allen (Lina) of Perth, Australia, great-grandchildren, Sean and Mike Barr of Cheyenne; Raquel, Sara and Zach Bibbey of Albuquerque; Jordan, Mitchell, Louis and Sierra Allen, Nicholas (Nico) and Gabriella Allen of Perth, Australia; great-great grandson Gavyn Barr; and numerous nieces and nephews. Nick was preceded in death by his parents Constantine and Georgia (Hasapedis) Lagos, wife Olga, sisters Caliope Terevolas, Angie White, brothers Pete, Jim, John, Alex and granddaughter Michelle Bibbey.
