Nyla Rapelje Bell, 83, of Cheyenne, passed away suddenly at her home on August 24, 2013. Born March 24, 1930 in Loveland, CO to Cecille and George Rapelje. After graduating from Rawlins High School WY, she attended The University of Wyoming 1948 - 1952. She married George Bell November 20, 1949. She worked as a Secretary for The Bureau of Mines while her husband was serving in the military. She followed him wherever she could and worked for the Department of the Navy in Port Hueneme, CA. Later during the Korean War she worked as a secretary for the US Army at The little Pentagon in Camp Zama, Japan. In 1955 Nyla and George returned to Wyoming. In 1969 she moved to Sheridan, WY and became Secretary to the President of the Bank of Commerce. In 1977 she moved to Cheyenne, WY with her family and worked for the Mountain Bell Telephone Company where she retired in 1983. She then served as a Committee Secretary for the Wyoming State Legislature. She was an active member of PEO, Chapter C. Served as Past President, and held the Office of Chaplain for many years, and belonged to the PEO Bridge Group. She loved her many sisters. She was active in her First United Methodist Church's Women's Group. She was an avid reader. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, George H. Bell, her children: David Bell (Mary) of Arvada, CO, Suzanne Bell Phebus (Jeff) of Fort Collins, CO. Six grandchildren, Brittany Phebus Warren (Matt), Danielle Phebus, Taylor Phebus, Jake Bell, Chad Bell and Kaylee Bell, Nephew, Steve Griffin and Niece, Debra Griffin. She was a beautiful, kind and considerate selfless woman who loved her family and friends above and beyond herself. She loved to talk. Her gentle nature, sense of humor and un-ending quest for knowledge will never be forgotten. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Gregory George Bell, her sister, Melba Griffin. Memorial Services are 11:00 a.m.September 3, 2013 at First United Methodist Church. Private interment of her urn will be in Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PEO, Chapter C scholarship fund, Cheyenne Animal Shelter, or First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
