Opal Petersen

Opal Marie Petersen, 102, of Cheyenne passed away November 20, 2011 at the Cheyenne Life Care Center. She was born April 27, 1909 in Auburn, NE, to Daniel Garrett and Edith May (Gash) Kinnison and lived in Cheyenne for more than 80 years. She married Martin Petersen on April 13, 1929 in Kimball, NE and moved to Cheyenne, WY shortly thereafter. Opal was a housewife, dedicated mother of two and a constant companion with her husband. She loved her horses and raised Shetland ponies. She was also proficient in ceramic & porcelain crafts and operated a ceramic school for many years. She was active in the community and enjoyed bowling in both couples and women's leagues and golf with her husband. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin, daughter Eleanore Madigan, parents Daniel and Edith, nine brothers; Elwin Leroy, Daniel Calvin, Albert James, Cyril Clifford, Wilber Washington, Loyd Raymond, Forest Laverne, Virgil Albertus, Cecil Eugene and one sister Bessie Ella Higday. She is survived by her son Martin E. Petersen of Cheyenne, son-in-law J. Patrick Madigan, grand-children; Deborah L Saxon of Lincoln, NE, Rene Meister and husband Marty of Lincoln, NE, Patrick E. and wife Annette Petersen of Alta, IA, Cindi K and husband Gordon Shirey of Ogallala, NE, Dennis E Madigan of Cheyenne, Kathy and husband Stephen Blackburn of Sterling VA, Pat A. Will of Cheyenne, WY, Kevin J and wife Karen M Madigan of Cheyenne, WY; fourteen great grand-children and numerous great-great grand-children. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Schrader Chapel under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home with Rev. Sandi Dillon officiating. Cremation has taken place.
