Ozell Thomas

December 12, 1939 — August 11, 2015

Ozell Marie Walker Thomas finished her journey here on earth August 11th at approximately 10:00 a.m. in the year of our Lord two thousand and fifteen. She was in the company of her only daughter as she peacefully transitioned home. Ms. Thomas was born in Dodson, LA, as Ozell Marie Walker on December 12, 1939, from the union of David Walker and Ruby Caesar. She attended Jackson Parish schools and graduated from Jackson High School in 1958. Ozell continued her education by attending Grambling University and subsequently graduating with a BA from The Mighty University of Wyoming in 1979. Ms. Thomas had three children, Khiana R. Lewis, Ansara Micky Lewis and James Hymie Lewis from her union with James C. Lewis. She went on to teach within the Laramie County School District before becoming a Church of God in Christ Evangelist and later on an ordained minister. Later on in life, Ozell met and united in holy matrimony with her best friend and soulmate Mr. Jonnie L. Thomas on December 31, 1981. Mr. and Ms. Thomas danced to Endless Love and blended the Thomas/Lewis family living happily for 22 years until Johnnie went home to be with the Lord on their anniversary December 31, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonnie L. Thomas; her son, James Hymie Lewis; her parents; a stepmother, Tharessa Walker; three sisters: Stellarine Walker Taplin, Earthine Walker and Della Dias; and four brothers; David L., Billy, Bennie and James Walker. She is survived by Khiana R. Lewis and Ansara (Micky) Lewis along with five step-sons and three step-daughters. She is also survived by sister, Thomasina (Charlie) White of Jonesboro, LA, and brother, Danny (Sharon) Hill, of Winfield, LA. Also surviving are two uncles, Lawrence Caesar of Jonesboro, LA, and Welkum Walker of Riverside, CA; three aunts, Noah Walker of Saginaw, MI, Mariah Montjoy of Los Angeles, CA, and Precious Cowherd of Altadena, CA; special cousins, Emily Heard and R.F. Caesar, both of Altadena, CA and Ella Phillips of San Diego, CA. A Going Home Celebration Service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home. An interment service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Schrader Reception Center.
