Patricia Fleming

August 23, 1929 — November 23, 2016

Patricia Ann Fleming died of advanced dementia on the morning of Wednesday, November 23rd, at Davis Hospice Center at the age of 87. She was born in Cheyenne to Patrick W. Dinneen and Flo M. Dinneen (Barnes). She grew up in Cheyenne where she held her first job - washing dishes alongside her mother who daily welcomed and cooked for dozens of young airmen stationed in Cheyenne during World War II. She graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1947 and from the University of Wyoming in 1951 with dual masters in Psychology and Sociology. It was there that she met her husband, Bob Fleming. Together they returned to Cheyenne, married, and built their lives. Patricia began her career in the Cheyenne schools as Dean of Girls. This marked the beginning of a lifetime dedicated to individuals of all ages. She continued her studies and obtained a Doctorate of Education in 1971. As a widely sought-after psychologist and consulting forensic expert, Dr. Fleming traveled the state and nation defending death-row inmates at stay of execution hearings and trials. One such trial was chronicled by John Grisham in his non-fiction work, "An Innocent Man." She founded one of the first psychological private practice offices in Wyoming - Fleming Associates. The computer-assisted educational and mental status exams she designed are still in use today. She served on the Wyoming Board of Parole and as the President of the Wyoming Psychological Association and the Wyoming Board of Psychology. Patricia had many interests and loves in her life - her family and her eight grandchildren, who she adored and doted on with her love and home-baked treats, and enough wisdom to last a lifetime. She was a prolific reader (especially of mystery novels) and a remarkable chef. She shared her bountiful love of people and life with her dogs, who accompanied her on walks through Lions Park for many years. Patricia was preceded in death by Bob, her husband of 58 years; her parents; and her brother, Patrick Dinneen. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Dawn Fleming Jackson (Dan), Ray Fleming Dinneen (Jim), Grant Fleming (Tammy), and Patrick Fleming (Heather); eight grandchildren - who all called her "Hoo Hoo" - Grant Jackson, Shea Anderson (Derek), Anna Holman (Hunter), Will Dinneen, Claire Dinneen, Grayson Fleming, Liam Fleming, Hadyn Fleming; one great-grandchild, Jackson Anderson; and by her best friend of 80 years, Cindy Vandewark. A Vigil for the Deceased will be held on Friday, November 25th, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
