Paul Smith

Paul "Smitty" E. Smith, 77, of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 8, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Smitty was born December 29, 1937, in Cedar, Kansas, a son of the late David and Ruby (Stice) Smith. Smitty grew up in Sherman County, Kansas, on Smoky Hill River. He attended school in Kanarado, Kansas, and later served in the United States Army from 1960-62. He served nine months in Ansbach, Germany, with the 75th Artillery and was stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas. He owned and operated Smitty's Diesel Repair in Cheyenne for a number of years before moving to Pine Bluffs in 1975 where he owned and operated Smitty's Truck Stop at the Wyoming-Nebraska state line until 1993. Before retiring in 2002, he owned and operated his own semi-trucks. He was particularly proud of his family, and he enjoyed spending time with all of them. Smitty is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Smith; four children, Denise Kneip (John), Douglas Smith (Denise), Toni Ayers (Carl), and Susan Hudson (Jerry); three brothers, Raymond Smith, Don Smith (Carrie Mae), and Eugene Smith (Doris); a sister, Florence Beal (Dennis) and Helen Paramore; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruth Kibel; two brothers, James (Art) Smith and Dean Smith; a nephew, Darin Jacobsen; a niece, Denise Schilz; sister-in-laws, Inabelle Smith and Maxine Schilz, and brother-in-law, Joe Paramore. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pine Bluffs Baptist Church with Pastor Dan DeBruyn officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered to the family on-line by going to www.schradercares.com.
