Peter Mergard (Uncle Pete), 58, laid down and took a nap and suffered a massive heart attach and went home to heaven on January 23. He was born July 24, 1955 in Frankford, Germany and came to America as a child. He spent his youth in Covington, KY, then moving to Cheyenne in 1980, considering it his forever earthly home. Pete was the sole proprietor of Cheyenne Metal Polishing, which he was an artist in his ability to make metal shine, he also was a heavy equipment operator loving the dirt and especially digging with an excavator. Music was his true passion. He was the banjo player in Beatgrass; bringing joy to people whenever he performed. He was also a gifted guitar and mandolin player. Along with his band mates, Jeff, Shawn and Josh, he worked to bring the music scene together in Cheyenne, no matter of their genre. He loved all music especially James Brown and the Beatles. His favorite music was the music him and his sons played together. In 1983, he met his true love and number one slopahontas, Theresa Ingersoll and married her in 1984. Out of this magical union, he became the proud dad of four sons, Joshua, William, Rudy and Jacob, which was the center of his joy out of this joy, came the most precious people in his life, his grandchildren, Annaliese and Brother Jake. Pete was a hard working man, who burned the candle at both ends. He loved to ride motorcycles; he rode Harleys for years, then went back to his heritage and rode BMWs. He did not care what you rode, just that people would ride and feel the freedom, he so enjoyed. He was a member of Hoops for Life and made hula-hoops for friends and children, which brought a lot of joy to many kids and adults alike. Pete will be remembered for his loving and giving spirit by his wife, his sons, Willy, Rudy and Jake (Nikita). He will also be greatly missed by his parents, Donald and Marie Mergard, his siblings, Fritz (Kelly), Donnie, Herman (Wanda), Cheryl and Terry (Brad) Smith all of Kentucky and Tony (Sandy) of Atlanta, Georgia. He also has numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews and his wife's family that he considered blood and many friends, especially his band mates who were like sons to him that will miss him intensely. Pete was greeted in heaven by his son Joshua, his grandparents, Fritz and Marie Rinklieb and Herman and Burnett Mergard and his father-in-law, Bill Ingersoll and many other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donation be made to Grace of Two Brothers in honor of his son, Joshua. A viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29th at Schrader Funeral home and a celebration of life hosted by the family and Beatgrass will be held starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1st at the family shop at 3304 Gregg Way.
