Phyllis Cook Smith dies April 17th in Cheyenne Phyllis was born Dec. 3, 1919 in Woonsocket, RI. She met the love of her life, George Temple Smith, at a USO dance during WWII. His blue eyes, honesty and love of Wyoming won her over and they corresponded during the war. They were married May 23, 1946 in Woonsocket and moved to Cheyenne, a decision Phyllis never regretted. Phyllis loved gardening, camping and genealogy. She was a proud member of the First Methodist Church, Mayflower Society, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Take Pounds of Sensibly (TOPS) and Eastern Star. She and her husband were also very proud of their daughter. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Smith and two nephews; Andy (& Cheri) Bessette and Gary (& Lori) Bessette. She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband George T. Smith, her brother Andy Bessette and parents Charles and Laura (Bunny) Bessette. Funeral Services will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Schrader Chapel with the Reverend Trudy Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Beth El Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter (from which she adopted many cherished pets or rather friends) or to the Laramie County Library (which provided her reading materials and allowed her to trace her lineage to the Mayflower in memory of her Mother).
