Ralph DeWyke

August 1, 1926 — July 5, 2016

Ralph Wayne DeWyke, 89 passed away peacefully July 5th at TenderNest in Billings, MT. He was born August 1, 1926 in the Blue Valley of Kansas to George and Charlotte (Hinson Drew) DeWyke. Ralph attended high school at Garrison Rural High School and went on to get a bachelor and masters degree from Kansas State University. He met his wife Carrol (Sachtjen) of 61 years on a blind date in Manhattan, KS and were married on June 19, 1955. Ralph worked for the Army Audit Agency in Aurora, CO and moved to Cheyenne where he worked for the Bureau of Public Roads which became the U.S. Highway Administration. He retired in 1986. Ralph was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church and head usher for many years. He was a lifelong supporter of the K-State Wildcats, and was active in Golden K-Kiwanis, NARFE and RSVP. Ralph had a passion for history and enjoyed researching his family tree , WY and KS state history and the Civil War. In 2002, he published a book on his home town and surrounding area. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Neva Rice and Dorothy Bohn and brother Donald DeWyke. He is survived by brothers Keith and George; wife Carrol DeWyke; four children, James (Dawn) DeWyke of Kingsland, GA, Michael (Beckie) DeWyke of Marion, IA, Jon DeWyke of Columbus, NE and Sharol Acheson of Billings, MT; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numbers nieces and nephews. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will occur August 1 at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 220 W 22nd Street. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
