Ray A. Lorenzon, 90, of Cheyenne, passed away on March 24, 2014, at Davis Hospice Center. Ray was born April 30, 1923, in Superior, WY. His friends and family remember him as a good man and great basketball player. He learned the value of helping one's neighbors and supporting one's family - habits that lasted throughout his life. Ray earned a basketball scholarship to attend the University of Wyoming, but enlisted in the army to serve his country in World War II instead. He spent 2 ½ years overseas in Europe, returning safely just before Christmas, 1944. He married Thelma V. Oikari in January, 1945. It was the beginning of a lifelong love and partnership for both. In 1952, Ray, Thelma and two daughters moved to Rock Springs, WY. He purchased a bar and liquor store which he operated until 1975. During these years , he contributed to his community and developed many lasting friendships. Ray loved Wyoming to hunt in her mountains and fly fish on her clear streams and rivers. He shared his love of fly fishing with anyone who demonstrated the slightest interest and was a very patient teacher. To watch Ray on the river casting his own fly was poetry in motion. Ray will be remembered for living a remarkable life because of his deeply held values, his passion for family, his humorous story-telling, the joy he experienced from fly fishing and hunting and his many loyal four-footed, furry friends. Thelma passed in 2009. Ray is survived by his daughters, Rae Lynn Job and Terri Lorenzon; son-in-law, Jack Pugh; granddaughter and spouse, Heather and Brian Bushey; two great grandsons; and several nieces and a nephew. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.
