Rex Goertz

Rex Goertz, 63, of Lake Worth, Texas passed away at his home on January 18th. He was born June 25, 1950, in Wheatland, the son of Jacob and Anabel (Mers) Goertz. He was raised on the Slater Flats south of Wheatland, and graduated from Wheatland High School in 1968. Following time at the University of Wyoming and Wyoming National Guard, he began his first career of farming and ranching in the Wheatland and Slater communities. He married Pam Angle in Wheatland on April 26, 1970. To this union two children were born, Taylor Cornelius and Trevor William. The couple later divorced. After graduating from Aero Tech in 1988 he began his second career as a commercial airplane mechanic taking him to California, Arkansas, and most recently Lake Worth, Texas. Mr. Goertz married Cheryl McCall on July 4, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple shared many passions including NASCAR racing, boating, and enjoying life to the fullest. Rex was an avid baseball fan and especially loved watching his children and grandchildren play. He enjoyed playing pool, tinkering with automobiles, and his newspaper routes. He was a friend to everyone he met and an enemy to no one. The Texas Circulation Management Association awarded him the Carrier of the Year in 2011 for his dedication and exemplary service. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; two children, Taylor (Janice) Goertz of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Trevor (Jennifer) Goertz of Houston, Texas; Stepson Aaron (Katreena) Leavitt of West Jordan, Utah; Sisters Linda Tauger of Wheatland and Melody (Mark) Matheson of Sun City West, Arizona and brother Gregor (Cindy) Goertz of Wheatland; Grandsons Nathan, Noah, Tanner, Jayden, Riley, Peyton, Braden, and Brock, and Granddaughter Brooke. Mr. Goertz was preceded in death by his parents. Serving as pallbearers will be Wood Phifer, Glenn Brandon, Johnny Lockman, Rick Bowen, Kurtis Beidleman, and David Naibauer. Honorary pallbearers will be Clint Dixon, Fred Osborne, Scott Jones, Gregor Goertz, Steven Birge, Randy Martin, and his many friends. Funeral service will be January 25th at 2 p.m. at United Church of Christ in Wheatland. A celebration of "Gerty's" life will be January 24th at 7 p.m. at the Wheatland Country Club. Interment will be in Wheatland Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the United Church of Christ from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Memorials to the Platte County Relay for Life, c/o 1054 Pine St., Wheatland, WY 82201 or the Slater Hall Corporation, c/o Peggy Bise, #1 South Goertz Rd., Wheatland, WY 82201 would be appreciated by the family. Schrader Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
