Richard Ackerman

Richard "Rick" E. Ackerman, 62, of Cheyenne died May 30, 2012 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. He was born February 21, 1950 in Cheyenne to Fay and Dorothy Ackerman. Rick was a caring and generous person who loved spending time with his family. Rick cherished his children and found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren. Some of his happiest moments included simply watching his grandchildren play. Rick also enjoyed riding motorcycles with his friends and always looked forward to the next road trip. Throughout his career as a carpenter and contractor he worked for Al Rogers, Foose Construction, and owned Empire Construction when he built many structures he was proud of, many of them local landmarks. He loved building and working with his father most of all. He retired from LCSD#1. He was baptized, received First Communion and Confirmation at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was a member of the Carpenter' Union. He graduated from High School in Cheyenne. He is survived by a son, Ryan Ackerman of Cheyenne; daughter, Jennifer Ackerman of Cheyenne; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Ackerman, Jonathan Ackerman and Ashley Bunch; sister Sharon Ackerman Kelley of Cheyenne; step mother Ella Ackerman, step brothers, Douglas Randles and Gregory Randles, both of Las Vegas, NV; step sister, Linda Brunner of Cheyenne and his significant other, Misty Grass and her son, Shadoe Jensen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fay Ackerman and Dorothy Williams and a brother, John Wayne Ackerman. Visitation will be Sunday at Schrader Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday in Schrader Chapel with Reverend Dana Lightsey officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens. After the interment, a celebration of his life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 3005 Thomes Ave. Friends and family are invited to bring a potluck dish, and a favorite memory to share.
