Richard Matthews

Richard C. Matthews, 79, of Cheyenne died December 28, 2014 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. He was born February 6, 1935 in Delaware, OH to Elmer and Louise Matthews. He married Sandra Tolbert on July 19, 1984 in Anacoco, LA. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years, also during the Vietnam Conflict and retired as a maintenance engineer. He also retired from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, CO in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion Post #6, AmVets and the VFW. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Matthews of Cheyenne; children, Jason Matthews of Sterling, CO, Robert Matthews of Colorado Springs, CO and Renee Labard of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Richard Locke, Brett Locke, Katelynn Locke, Matthew Lebard and Justin Lebard; niece Sondra (Tim) Clarke; great-nephews, Sean, Justin and Ryan; and a brother, Ted Matthews of Florida. He was preceded by his parents, daughter, Kandi Locke; grandson, Christian Lebard; and sisters, Barbara Walker and Sondra Matthews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Wounded Warriors Project or the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader Funeral Home. Cremation and services are under the care of Schrader Funeral Home.
