Rick Johnston

Rick Johnston, 64, of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away on August 23, 2019. Rick was born December 21, 1954 in Hayes, Kansas. He loved and was deeply loved in return by his wife, Teri, and family pet, Jeremiah (Miah), his extended family and many friends. Rick graduated from the University of Kansas in 1976, as a Professional Engineer (Mechanical). He later received a Professional Engineer licensure from the National Society of Professional Engineers. He began his career in Kansas with American Air Filter, but soon transferred and began working in Denver, Colorado. It was there that he and Teri first met. After a few years, he relocated to Cheyenne and teamed with Mike Gust establishing the Engineering Firm, Gust and Johnston, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. As a Professional Engineer, Rick was passionate about his work. He was involved in a legion of commercial mechanical projects in Cheyenne and throughout the State of Wyoming. He was instrumental in the construction of the Davis Hospice Center and involved in numerous Government endeavors involving highway rest areas. He also developed mechanical systems for LCCC, local schools, hospitals and many local businesses. After a nearly 20 year friendship, and a long engagement, Rick and Teri were married on November 8, 2003 in Cheyenne in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Rick spent much of his life loving and enjoying the great outdoors and the camaraderie of his good friends. His hobbies involved several outdoor activities as well as woodworking. He was an avid hunter, a zealous fisherman, and a determined golfer! He also enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, archery, tennis and racquetball. He loved tinkering in his garage with his fishing or hunting gear or repairing items for friends needing assistance. He was tagged, "Mr. Fix It." Rick is survived by his wife, Teri Johnston; his adoring family pet and constant companion, Jeremiah (Miah); brother, Roger Johnston (Beverly); sister, Linda Benson; brother, Bruce Johnston (Sally); as well as numerous loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Gerald-Lyle and Della Rosa Johnston. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, September 14, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A celebration of life reception will immediately follow at St. Mary's Hartmann Hall. Cremation is under the care of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rick's name may be made to Friday Food Bags or the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
