Robert Gallagher

Robert C. Gallagher, 89, died June 22, 2016 at Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne. He was born on February 8, 1927 in Laramie. He attended school in Laramie until WWII interrupted his studies. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1945 and served with the 77th Division as an electrician. He saw extensive action in the Pacific Theater. His decorations include the American Defense Medal, The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Upon his discharge, he returned to Laramie and in 1947 met and married the love of his life Joyce. They resided in Laramie where he worked for 14 years as an electrician for the Union Pacific Railroad. Their one son Jerry Lee was born in 1948. The family moved to Cheyenne in 1960 and he retired from F.E. Warren Air Force Base in 1987 after 27 years. Robert was a member of American Legion Post 6, VFW #1881 and Moose Lodge. He was a donor to St. Joseph's Children's Home. The Gallaghers were members of St. Mary's Parish. Joyce passed away in 2005. He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Lee; parents; brothers, Richard, Jessie and Donald and sisters, Grace and Shirley. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Anna Ramirez of Cheyenne, nephew Mike Gallagher of Cheyenne and niece, Bonnie Walker of California. Friends may contribute to VFW 1881. Graveside services will be Tuesday at Beth El Cemetery at 11 a.m. with military honors.
