Robert McGuire

Dr. Robert L. McGuire, 67, of Cheyenne died August 19, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. He was born July 23, 1945 in Washington, PA to Jack and Margaret McGuire. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Schleifer on August 3, 1968 in Allentown, PA. He graduated from Emmaus High School in Emmaus, PA in 1963, Muhlenberg College, Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Allentown, PA in 1967, Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA in 1971. He served his OB/GYN internship and residency at Allentown General Hospital in Allentown. In 1975, he moved his family to Cheyenne, WY and began practicing OB/GYN with Drs. Dan Hinkle, Harry Crawford and Hal Bass. In 1977, he moved his family to Pennsylvania, where he became the coordinator of the OB/GYN residency program because of his love of teaching. He served there for 2 years, but missed delivering babies, so he moved his family back to Cheyenne in 1979. Returning, he founded Cheyenne Obstetrics and Gynecology. His partners over the years included doctors: William Caldwell, Chris Cooper, John King, Sharon Eskam, David Lind, Bert Wagner, Mike Nelson, Katie Randall, Lisa Vigue, Mary Ellen Foley, Kirk Shamley, Rene Hinkle, and Jeff Storey. He served on the Wyoming Board of Medicine for 8 years, was a member of Laramie County Medical Society and served as president and secretary/treasurer. He was a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was the Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WWAMI) Medical Education program "Teacher of the Year" in 2011. Congressman Lummis honored his life and career as a physician which she had recorded in the 112th Congressional Record of the U.S. House of Representatives. In 2002 he was honored as one the top doctors for women in the Ladies Home Journal. He was a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite and Cheyenne Lodge #1, A.F. & A. M. Hobbies included scuba diving, reading, wood working, traveling, hiking, his mountain cabin and storytelling to his grandchildren. He was known for his love of his family, friends, bow ties and the care of his patients. He is survived by his wife, Linda McGuire; children Dr. Heather McGuire (Todd Mays) of Billings, MT, and Sean (Jennifer) McGuire of Casper; grandchildren, Riley and Liam Mays; siblings, Linda (Ken) McEnery of Jacksonville, FL, Jack W.(Barbara) McGuire, II of Reading, PA and William (Holly) McGuire of Nantucket, MA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Contributions may be made to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Foundation, Davis Hospice Center, First Presbyterian Church, or Charity of choice. Memorial Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church.
