Robert H. Miller

May 7, 1928 — April 10, 2025

Cheyenne

Robert Henry Miller, 96, of Cheyenne, passed away on April 10, 2025 at Davis Hospice Center. He was born on May 7, 1928, in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Earl and Nellie Miller. From an early age, Bob’s warmth, work ethic, and love of sports began to shine through—a passion that would shape much of his life. He graduated from Jamestown High School, where he played football and earned All-Star honors. That same spirit carried him to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, from 1946 to 1950, where he continued his football journey and received a Bachelor’s degree in Business. He excelled as class president and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. During his college years, Bob’s coach helped him find both shelter and sustenance, letting him live in the stadium and arranging a job as a busboy so Bob could earn his meals. It was a humble setup that paid off in more ways than one—college is also where he met the love of his life, Marion Geske. Bob proudly served his country during the Korean War as a National Guardsman stationed at Camp Rucker in Alabama from 1950 to 1952. Upon returning, he began his career in banking as a loan officer at James River Bank in Jamestown, serving from 1954 to 1964. He also found time to serve on the local school board, always giving back to his community. Later, Bob and the family moved to Littleton, Colorado, where he became President of newly founded Southglenn Bank. His leadership took the family westward again, this time to Wyoming, where Bob served as Vice President of banks in both Casper and Sheridan. Even after retiring from banking, he stayed active, working as a security officer for the Spring Creek Coal Company. Bob and Marion raised three children and shared fifty-five beautiful years of marriage, filled with laughter, love, and adventure, until her passing in 2006. Together, they embraced life—spending many winters in Mesa, Arizona, enjoying tennis, bridge, cribbage, hiking, and all the social connections that brought them joy. One of Bob’s most endearing roles was stepping in for his wife’s tennis group in Sheridan, where he was affectionately known as “Bobette.” It was just one of many ways he showed up for those he loved—with humility, humor, and heart. Bob had a lifelong love for sports, especially fishing and golf. He was a devoted member of Ascension Lutheran Church, as well as congregations in Sheridan and Jamestown. He gave back to his community in retirement, serving as a substitute driver for Meals on Wheels in Sheridan and Cheyenne. He is survived by his children, Diane Bassham and Greg Miller of Cheyenne, Janelle Edwards of Lacey, WA, two grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie and step-father, Charles Podratz, and a granddaughter, Brittany Lauren Miller. Service and reception will be held on April 24, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church. Friends may contribute to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital or Davis Hospice Center.
