Robert "Bob" Pickett

Robert John "Bob" Pickett, 82, of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2019. Bob was born April 26, 1936 in Cheyenne, the son of Judge John C. and Lura M. Pickett. Bob graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1954. He attended the University of Nebraska on a wrestling scholarship and was an elite member of The N Club. He served his country for two years in the United States Army and was stationed in Italy. On January 30, 1960, he married Cecelia "Celie" Mores at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cheyenne. They were married 53 years before Celie passed away on May 3, 2013. He received his bachelor's degree in education from the University of Wyoming. He taught physical education and was a football and wrestling coach at Cheyenne East High School. He returned to the University of Wyoming and graduated with his Juris Doctor degree in 1972. He was an Assistant County Prosecutor and practiced law with the firm of Pickett & McKinney in Rock Springs, Wyoming. In 2003, Bob and Celie retired to Moab, Utah before moving home to Cheyenne in 2011. A huge part of his life was rodeo and he was a member of the PRCA and Cheyenne Roping Club, and he rarely missed Cheyenne Frontier Days as a competitor or spectator. He was also a member of Elk's Lodge #660 and the UW Cowboy Joe Club. The highlights of Bob's life were his wife, Celie; his daughter, Penelope; and his grandson, Hunter Robert. He also enjoyed planting flowers, watching sports, telling stories and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge John C. and Lura M. Pickett; his wife, Cecelia (Mores) Pickett; and brother, Richard Pickett. He is survived by his daughter, Penelope Butterfield of Cheyenne; grandsons, Hunter Butterfield of Moab, UT and Courtney Butterfield of Salt Lake City, UT; brother-in-law, George A. Mores (Suzanne) of Cheyenne; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home. A memory service will be celebrated on Thursday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home with an interment service to follow in Beth El Cemetery.
