At Mr. Washburn’s request, there will be no visitiation. A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, March 15, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Pine Bluffs Baptist Church with Pastor Daniel R. DeBruyn officiating. Cremation has taken place at Schrader’s Sunset Park Crematory. Ronald W. Washburn, 70, of Pine Bluffs, passed away Monday evening, February 15, 2010, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cheyenne. Mr. Washburn was born December 4, 1939, in Pasadena, California, a son of the late James R. and Waneta (Fry) Washburn. A graduate of Goodland High School in Goodland, Kansas, Mr. Washburn enlisted in the United States Navy on June 26, 1959. He was honorably discharged on May 16, 1963, and returned to Kansas where he later purchased the Phillips 66 Service Station, and ulitmately three additional service stations in the Goodland area. He was instrumental in organizing the Reserve Fire Deparment and served as its first Chief for 18 years. He also served as Chief of the Reserve Police Department for several years. In 1978, he worked as the manager of the Husky Truck Stop, and in the late 1980s, he moved to Pine Bluffs to manage the Ampride Truck Stop. He had many personal interests, most notably bowling and golfing with his late wife, Pat. Mr. Washburn is survived by two sons, Sam Washburn and wife, Janet, of Lewisville, TX, and Mark Washburn and wife, Lisa, of Grand Island, NE; two brothers, Dan Washburn of Ponder, TX, and Dennis Washburn, of Topeka, KS; and four grandchildren, Ashlay Wasburn, Joshua Washburn, Justin Washburn and Jacob Washburn. He is preceded in death by his parents and his second wife, Pat.
