Ronald E. Harris, 78, of Cheyenne passed away May 11, 2017 at his home surrounded by loving family after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer. Ron was born April 28, 1939 in Rock Springs and lived in Winton, WY, a small coal camp close to Rock Springs. He later moved to Cheyenne with his family where he made many life-long friends. He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School in 1957 and enlisted in the Army where he served as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division until 1959. After completing his military service, he went to work for Convair, Cheyenne and Martin Marrietta, Denver working in an early missile program. Ron entered an apprenticeship with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in 1963, later teaching over 200 young people in the apprenticeship program over 22 years, and was a 50 year member of the IBEW. He married Anne Pickens on August 27, 1966 at St. Mary's Cathedral and they had three wonderful children, Shawn and Brock (twins), and Kim. Ron worked many years in the electrical industry prior to serving as the Chief Electrical Inspector for the State of Wyoming for approximately twelve years. He retired as an instrumentation engineer from Holly Frontier Refinery in 2012 so he could enjoy his golf, reading, puzzles, breakfast with the friends, spending time with Anne and the grandchildren, and walking his faithful companion Maggie. As a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan he was finally able to enjoy seeing the Cubs win The World Series. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #415, and International Association of Electrical Inspectors. Ron is survived by his wife, Anne Harris of Cheyenne; children, Shawn (Kristen) Harris of Lake Mary, FL and Kimberly (Michael) Moses of Glendora, CA; grandchildren, Olivia Harris, Kathryn Moses and Michael Moses; and brother, Richard (Margaret) Harris of Redding, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Brock Kevin Harris; brothers, James Harris and William Harris. Those who wish may contribute to St. Joseph's Children's Home or Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
