Ruth Springer

Mrs. Ruth Y. Springer, 95, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away early Monday morning, January 21, 2013, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. Ruth was born April 24, 1917, in Republic, Kansas, a daughter of the late Guy and Lucy (Bragg) Yost. Ruth's greatest professional joy was teaching and she served as Goins Elementary School's first Kindergarten teacher. She worked at Goins Elementary School as a Kindergarten teacher for more than 30 years, and her love for teaching lasted until last spring when she served as a volunteer tutor twice a week for Pioneer Park Elementary School. She served as an active member of the First United Methodist Church and she was the longest tenured parishioner of the church. She also was a member of RSVP (Retired Senior and Volunteer Program), Kappa Kappa Iota (KKI,a teaching sorority), and the Wyoming Retired Teachers Association. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals, particularly cats. Ruth will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Alice Marks and husband, Sam, of Port Aransas, TX; her son, Charles R. Springer and wife, Bobbi, of Northglenn, CO; two sisters, Dorothy Wilkinson of Tulsa, OK, and Carol Peterson of Salem, OR; four grandchildren, David Marks and wife, Joanmarie, of Cheyenne, Jane Marks-Hastig and husband, Steve, of Bemidji, MN, Joshua Marks of Eagan Prairie, MN, and Susan Marks-Kerst and husband, Robert, of Minneapolis, MN; and six great-grandchildren, Morgan Marks of Cheyenne, Jordan Marks of Cheyenne, Cassidy Marks of Cheyenne, Shannon Marks of Cheyenne, Jarrett Hastig of Bemidji, MN, and Brooke Hastig of Bemidji, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Clair "Ike" Springer on June 1, 1978; one brother; and three sisters. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Schrader Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, January 26th at 9:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with The Reverend Mark Marston officiating. An interment service will follow at Beth El Cemetery.
