Sally Parker

September 3, 1913 — July 24, 2016

Sally Joyce Parker, age 102, passed away peacefully, close to family and loved ones the morning of July 24, 2016, at Gardens on Quail in Arvada Colorado. Sally was born September 3, 1913, in Sheridan County, Wyoming, to parents Mary and Ben Joyce. She was the last surviving of seven brothers and sisters. During her long life, she also outlived two wonderful husbands, Val O. Weitz (died 1961) and Judge Glenn Parker (died 1989) as well as her loving son, James B. Weitz (died 2000). Raised on a small Wyoming farm, Sally eventually moved to Cheyenne and began working in the Wyoming Department of Education in the 1930s. Later she became personal secretary to Governor Jack Gauge (1961-63), spending most of her 50 year career working in different capacities for the state. She was also a dedicated volunteer at St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Cheyenne and proud active member of the Order of Eastern Star. Her positive outlook, loving personality and sharp wit made her a friend to all who met her and an inspiration to many. She always lived life by the philosophy that we make a choice every day whether to be happy or sad and always had comforting words or encouragement to spare family or friends in need of a pep talk. To those that knew her as "Sass" she had a playful sense of humor and was always quick to get out her "dancin' shoes" and bring her inviting smile. Sally was loved dearly and will be missed. The loved ones she is survived by include her daughter-in-law, Vicki Weitz; two grandsons, Val J. and Michael A. Weitz; great-grandson, Riley Weitz; and her nephews, Alan Wolfe and Walt Davis. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 1:30 pm at St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Cheyenne with Father Rick Veit officiating.
