Shirley Garrett-Robinson

February 16, 1925 — December 23, 2015

Shirley Jane Garrett-Robinson, 90, of Cheyenne passed away in peace on December 23, 2015. She was an extraordinary person, with a life purpose of helping and giving strength to others. May her memory be eternal. Shirley was born February 16, 1925, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Howard and Evelyn (Walvoord) Beyer. Gifted and hardworking, at age 17 she graduated from Sheridan High School in 1942. She then attended the University of Wyoming becoming a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and remaining a lifetime member of the Alumni Association. Shirley married Elmer F. Garrett of Cheyenne on February 8, 1947. Together, they built Garrett Realty Company. They became and remained very active in the Cheyenne community. She focused her interests on her family first and giving back to the community. Shirley dedicated herself to organizations including raising funds for the YMCA building drive and serving as a team captain for DePaul Hospital and United Fund. She served as president of these various organizations: Women's Civic League (and Charter Life Member), Chapter 2 PEO, Tri Delta Alumnae Group, Questers Chapter 547. She was a 60-Year Member of OES. She enjoyed life with Elmer for over thirty-four years until his untimely passing in 1982. In 1987, life blessed Shirley with love again and she remarried to Ralph T. Robinson. The two spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona, golfing at Fountain of the Sun Golf Club, and traveling here and abroad. They were active members of the Church of the Masters in Mesa. Committed to helping the community, they supported the UW President's Society, United Medical Center, Laramie County Library and the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. Shirley avidly played bridge to the end. She played competitive golf, traveled extensively, and painted water colors. Throughout she actively served the First Presbyterian Church of Cheyenne though its various committees and as President of the Women's Association. Shirley was a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother-the matriarch of her family. She is survived by many family members: son, Glen Garrett (Susan); grandchildren, Bethany Garrett, Margaret Leever (Scott), and Tyler Garrett (Alexis); great-grandchildren, Bo Leever, Miles Leever, Genevieve Garrett and Jackson Garrett; step-daughters, Elinor Jane Ingram and Julie Robinson Kozisek; and step-grandchildren, Thomas Ingram, Daisy Ingram, Scott Kosizek and Kayla Kozisek.
