Shirley Martin

Shirley Jean Martin, 78, Of Burns, Wyoming, died December 13, 2012, at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO. Jean was born at Red Top Station, CO, November 12, 1934, to W.R. and Julia Edwards. She graduated from Laramie High School in 1952. Jean married Syd Martin of Burns on May 23, 1954. They raised their family on their farm north of Burns. She enjoyed sewing, oil painting, making candy, and made and decorated many wedding cakes for family and friends. Jean's homemade doughnuts were a special treat. She was a member of Daughters of the Nile, Prairie Pioneers Extension Club, and a Cub Scout den mother. Jean is survived by her husband, Syd of Burns; her brother, Buddy Edwards of Laramie; her sisters, Barby (Bob) Seaton of Ft. Collins, CO, and Marcia Edwards of Laramie; a special cousin and friend Donice (Roy) Lilley of Wellington, CO; and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by her children Carole (Owen) Goertz of Hillsdale, Katherine (Paul) O'Brien of Aberdeen, ID, Sydney (Linda) Martin of Burns, and Tom Martin of Burns; her grandchildren, Patricia (Will) Hardin of Cheyenne, Lindsey (TJ) Hollingsworth of Cheyenne, Michelle (Chris) Vercelli of Hillsdale, Amanda Hearne of Laramie, Casey (Brandi) O'Brien of Pinedale, WY, Cody O'Brien of Aberdeen, ID, Becklynn Martin and Hunter Martin of Norman, OK; and great-grandchildren, Crystal, Jordan, Adriana Hardin, Brianna Hollingsworth, Kylie and Dylan Vercelli, Sydney O'Brien and Bridgette Hearne. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Edith Mae Seyler of Billings, MT, and her great- granddaughter, Allison Hearne of Laramie. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday December 18, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Schrader Chapel with Pastor Walter Hagemeier officiating. An interment service will follow at the Burns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, Fairfax Rd at Virginia St., Salt Lake City, UT 84103.
