Stanley Rundquist

Stanley Lind Rundquist, 97, of Cheyenne left this world on August 27. He was the first born child to his Swedish immigrant father, Sigurd Rundquist and Norwegian immigrant mother, Emmy Lind in Bellingham, Washington. Upon graduating from high school in Bellingham, Stan commercial fished with his father in Alaska then joined the CCC and with other young men constructed many buildings and facilities we enjoy to this day in Washington and Oregon parks. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Stan enlisted in the Navy where he served on the USS Saratoga in the Pacific as an airplane mechanic and gunner. Following the war, Stan went to work for the Boeing Company in Seattle where he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Nixon. Stan and Dorothy had three children and raised them in various towns across the USA (most notably Cheyenne) with his various assignments for Boeing on the Minuteman Missile Program, as well as the 747 and 757 jetliners. Stan retired in 1982 after a full career with Boeing, and he and Dorothy bought a small farm near Warrensburg, Missouri that they enjoyed until moving back to Cheyenne in 2000. Stan and Dorothy traveled the world in their retirement ultimately visiting all seven continents. Wherever Stan was, he was always active in the Presbyterian Church. In addition to family, church and travel, Stan loved skiing, building and fixing stuff, gardening, raising horses, making toys for the grandkids, cribbage and playing the harmonica. To anyone who asked for his secret to longevity, he would reply: "Good wife. Good life. Three great kids. Good Scandinavian genes. And, the good Lord on my side." Stan was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn of Denver, Colorado; sister, Opal Erickson of Seattle; and his wife of 65 years, Dorothy. He is survived by his children Anita Keen of Cheyenne; John of Helena, Montana, Janet Quinn of Evergreen, Colorado; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Cheyenne or Davis Hospice (6000 Sycamore Rd., Cheyenne, WY 82009). Cremation has taken place under the care of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
