Susan R. Cohen of Cheyenne died April 12, 2014 at the Davis Hospice Center after a brief illness. Born May 20, 1942 in Cheyenne, Suzi graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1959. In her youth, Suzi was a remarkable pianist, beginning studies in Cheyenne with Juilliard graduate, George Volpe, followed by many summers at the Aspen Music School under the guidance of renowned pianists, Alexander Uninski and Grant Johannesen. She continued studies at the University of Southern California and Mannes College of Music in New York City. Suzi's passion was flying and she was fiercely loyal to Braniff Airlines, a company she worked for in various capacities for 25 years. Her service included working humanitarian flights to bring fallen soldiers home from the Vietnam War. She remained devoted to her Braniff and Dallas friends throughout her life. For many years, Susan ran Georgette's gift shop that had been founded by her mother and grandmother, Bette Cohen and Georgette Silverblatt. It became a gathering place, not only for people who wanted to purchase lovely gifts, but especially, for her many friends who would drop by for coffee and conversation. Suzi was an entertaining conversationalist, filled with opinions on a wide variety of subjects. She also loved to help friends entertain by setting their tables, bringing delicious dishes, and washing up after parties. There was no task too great or small for Suzi. She loved to help people. In one dear friend's words, "Suzi was the most caring, attentive friend anyone could have been privileged to have in Cheyenne. There wasn't a day she didn't think of who was in need and what it was that she might do." She is survived by her sister, Sheryl Cohen of Barrington, RI; her beloved dogs, Magic, Sophie, and Daisy; aunt Arline Cohen Harris of Cheyenne and California; cousins Beverly D'Anne Mognaz of New York City, Dr. Craig Cohen of Phoenix, Dr. Robbin Cohen of Los Angeles, Brent Cohen, Esq. of Denver; and countless devoted friends. Her parents, Bette and Haskell Cohen, preceded her in death. Memorial Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday in the Schrader Chapel. Cremation has taken place under the care of Schrader Funeral Home and online condolences may be made at www.schradercares.com. Friends may contribute to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, the Cheyenne Symphony Foundation (of which she was a long-time member of the Board of Directors), Mt. Sinai Synagogue, Davis Hospice, the Friday Food Bags, or a charity of your choice.
