Susan Y. (Sutherland) Anderson

Sue Anderson of Burns, Wyoming, passed from this life on May 25, 2024, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. She was born November 18, 1955, to Don and Edna Ruth (Hixon) Sutherland at Slaton, Texas. The family moved to the Elm Creek, Nebraska area when she was young. She attended country school and graduated from Elm Creek High School in 1974. Volleyball scholarships allowed Sue to obtain an associate degree from Eastern Wyoming College and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming. She was the outside hitter for both EWC, where her spiking records stood for at least twenty years, and UW. She also lettered in basketball at EWC and softball at UW.

Sue married Dale Anderson on May 27, 1978, at Elm Creek Methodist Church. They lived primarily on the farm and raised their three children. Sue taught science and coached at Albin School, stayed home with her children for their early years, worked for several employers, and retired as a bookkeeper for The Property Exchange. Several times she fought for those she felt were unfairly treated. She served on a local Arts Council committee and two terms on the LCSD2 School Board. Sue loved the beach, hang gliding, and most of all her two granddaughters.

Sue is survived by her husband, Dale, and son Jason (Lauryn), daughter Kelly, son Brock (Jen), and two granddaughters. Also surviving are brothers Doug Sutherland and Stan (Marilyn) Sutherland and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives.

Sue was predeceased by her parents, brother Mike Sutherland, and son-in-law Joseph Redmond.

A public celebration of her life will be June 5th, 2024 at 11 am at the Kiwanis Community House in Cheyenne, WY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your favorite food program for children.
