Cheyenne

Susan Elaine (Hirsig) Westedt, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 5th, 2024.

Susan was born February 1, 1938, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Raised on a ranch, Susan developed a passion for horses and loved horseback riding alongside her dad. After graduating from Cheyenne Central High School, Susan pursued a higher education at the prestigious Stephens College, in Columbia Missouri, and the University of Wyoming in Laramie, earning a bachelor's degree in Business Education in 1959. While at the U of W, she pledged to the Pi Beta Phi sorority that led to a lifelong active alumni membership and established the foundation of friendships she maintained throughout her life.

Susan's dedication to education led her to teach in various states, including Wyoming, California, Mississippi, and Colorado. While raising her family in Mississippi, she always looked forward to returning to her beloved Wyoming.

Susan found joy and companionship with her husband Kent Westedt whom she married November 23, 1988. For the past 22 years, the couple split their time between Cheyenne and Lake Havasu City, Arizona, embracing the best of both locations. In both communities, Susan and Kent formed deep and lasting friendships. Susan treasured these relationships, finding great happiness in the company of their many friends in Cheyenne and Lake Havasu.

Susan was active in several benevolent organizations where she generously gave of her time and resources, including P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and the Cowgirls of the West.

An avid traveler, Susan had a particular love for cruising. She was always eager to plan the next adventure, but her greatest joy came from organizing gatherings for her family and friends. Susan and Kent cherished every moment spent with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her love of family, passion for education, zest for life, and the warmth she brought to her friendships.

Susan is survived by her Husband, Kent Westedt, daughter’s Danay Trest (Gil), Kristin Hudson (Brian), Staci Ross (Roger) and Shawn Meyers (Al). Also, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Iva Hirsig, brother, William Hirsig, son, Mark James O’Brien and great grandson, Corbin Wayne Goforth.
