On Monday, April 8, 2013, Thomas Alvin Judson, 64, died in the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. His wife Nancy, his daughter Joanne, and his brothers were with him when he passed. Born Thomas Alvin Younkin in Colby, Kansas, on April 15, 1948, to Ruben Alvin Younkin and Alma Jane Kepler, Tom's father died young and his mother remarried in 1953, at which time Tom's last name was changed to Judson. Tom grew up with his three brothers in Wheatland, Fort Ord, California, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Casper when he was very young, but home to him would always be Pavillion, where his father and grandfather had been farmers, and where Tom graduated from Pavillion High School in 1966. Tom then attended Arizona State University and the University of Wyoming, graduating from the latter with a degree in American Studies in 1970. He taught briefly in Green River, but after working for the Gertch-Baker Architecture firm in Laramie, Tom fell in love with building and would return to UW to take classes in design and architectural engineering. For the last thirty five years of his life, Tom was a member of the Wyoming State Board of Architects, and worked for various firms across the state of Wyoming and well as in his own firm in Riverton. The buildings, bridges, and private homes Tom designed are too numerous to list here, but there are few communities in Wyoming wherein he did not design something. Tom loved to read, watch old movies, tell stories, and was an active member of the High Noon Toastmasters. Mr. Judson was preceded in death by his parents, and by his beloved grandparents, Jack and Alice Kepler of Pavillion. Tom is survived by his wife Nancy Watkins Judson of Cheyenne (but formerly of Riverton); his daughter, Joanne Marie Hamilton and her husband, Bud, of Aurora, Colorado; his stepson, Bryan Hursh and his wife, Stacy, of Denver; grandchildren, Abby and Sean; his brother, Timothy Younkin and his wife, Jean, of Belize, Central America, and their son Brian Judson and his wife, Sara, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and their daughter Natalie Judson and her husband, Darren, Ojard and their children Kenton, Violet, and the soon-to-be-born Silas, all of Denver; his brother, Ted of Riverton; and his brother, Trent and his wife, Bonnie, of Tucson, Arizona, and their son, Zachery Judson and his wife, Kathy, and their son, Tucker of Berkley, California, and Trent and Bonnie's other son, Jessie, and his wife, Rachael and their sons, Gabriel and Nathaniel of Flagstaff, Arizona. A memorial service is planned for Monday, April 15, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton. On that date, Tom would have turned 65. Anyone who knew Tom is welcome to attend. Donations may be given to St. Jude's Children Hospital, in care of Davis Funeral Home. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home, Cheyenne.
