Mr. Thomas R. Shivers, Sr., 85, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 2, 2011, at the Mountain Towers Healthcare Center. Mr. Shivers was born August 26, 1926, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, a son of the late Julius and Emma (Lutz) Shivers. Thomas served in the United States Army during the Korean War while also serving honorably in the Naval Reserve. He married Cecelia V. Bentley in Gering, Nebraska, on October 1, 1952. He worked as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring after 46 years of faithful service. He was a member of the VFW #4343, American Legion Post #6, Capitol Lodge #54, A.F. & A.M., Wyoming Consistory #1, United Transportation Union #446, and Union Pacific Old Timers Club. He was also an avid supporter of local high school athletics, as well as University of Wyoming sports teams. Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Cecelia V. Shivers of Cheyenne; four children, John W. Shivers of Ogden, UT, Thomas R. Shivers, Jr. of Denver, CO, James R. Shivers of Cheyenne, and Anna L. Snerd of Troy, KS; ten grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J.D. Shivers; and three sisters, Clytee Sandifer, Rose Branch and Emma Jean Holmes. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery at a later date.
