It is with a very heavy heart that I announce the recent passing of my husband, Todd Charles Nalder, age 53, of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Todd passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on June 20, 2023.
Todd was born in Rawlins, Wyoming on November 19, 1969. His parents are Dennis Nalder, and the late Geraldine Nalder of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Todd graduated from Rawlins High School and later earned his Bachelors degree in Biology from the University of Wyoming and his Masters degree in Kinesiology from the University of Minnesota. While earning his Masters degree and upon graduation from UW, he served as an assistant athletic trainer for the Phoenix Cardinals. Following graduation, he served as an athletic trainer for a Nashville Hockey Team, and later as the head trainer for the TCU Horned Frogs. He later returned to Cheyenne, Wyoming and provided rehabilitation services as a sports trainer to numerous residents of the Cheyenne community for many years with Smart Sports Medicine and volunteered his time helping local competitors as they prepared for the Special Olympics competition. In addition, he served for several years as a Deputy Coroner for Laramie County under Marty Luna and assisted other funeral homes occasionally throughout the state of Wyoming. He was a volunteer on the Grounds Committee for many years for Cheyenne Frontier Days, earning Volunteer of the Year Award for his service. In addition, Todd worked for many years with Justin Sports Medicine, providing athletic training and sports medicine to contestants participating in rodeos all across the country.
While in college at the University of Wyoming, Todd met Shelley (Power) Nalder while assisting and teaching in a class at UW. They dated throughout the remainder of their senior year in college and both went separate ways for Todd to pursue his Masters and Shelley to pursue her career. Eighteen years later, after loss of contact, Todd and Shelley reunited on Facebook and were married two years later on May 25, 2012. Todd then moved to Cody and lovingly helped raise Shelley’s two daughters, Jessica and Bethany, as his own. Two years later, they moved to Cheyenne where Todd worked up through the ranks from a Team Member to Senior Operations Manager at the Lowe’s RDC here in Cheyenne,
where he felt blessed and honored to spend his days working with and training staff who were not only co-workers; but also considered friends.
Last year, he became a proud and doting grandfather to twin grandchildren that he absolutely adored and spent every weekend traveling to spend time with them.
Throughout his life, Todd loved and accepted everyone he met. He always strived to put others before himself and was most happy when helping others and making them happy. He would do anything for anyone who asked, without a second thought. Last fall, Todd was inducted into the University of Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame, earning an award for his tremendous contribution as a college athletic trainer. He loved playing golf, watching football and hockey, playing trivia, cooking amazing meals, and traveling to many locations across the U.S. and Mexico, golfing, sitting on the beach listening to the waves, and collecting seashells with his wife, Shelley. In July 2018, Todd took Shelley to the island of Kawaii for her 50th birthday, where they renewed their vows on the beach, overlooking the sea turtles swimming below. Their hopes and dreams were to one day move to the East Coast and retire in a beach community. Todd’s unconditional love for his family, friends, and co-workers did not go unnoticed and he would do anything for any of them.
Todd is survived by his wife, Shelley (Power) Nalder of Cheyenne; two daughters, Jessica Power of Cody and Bethany (Tyler) Henninger of Arizona; two grandchildren, Colt and Kimber Power; his father, Dennis Nalder of Cheyenne; his sister, Jamie (Clifford) and children of Douglas, his father-in-law, Tim Power of Cody; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Amber Power and their four children of Cody; and countless other family, dear friends, and co-workers whom he loved very much.
He was proceeded in death by his mother, Geraldine Nalder, mother-in-law, Peggy Power, grandparents and other family members.
There are few words to express the deep heartache, pain, and sorrow felt by all who knew and loved Todd with his quick sense of wit and humor and his loving and generous spirit He will be greatly missed among us all.
