Valera Sanford Berg ~ 1919 - 2011 Valera Sanford Berg, much loved wife, mother and grandmother died October 12 in Littleton, CO. Born May 7, 1919 in Parnell, MO, she moved to Wyoming in 1929. She was preceded in death by parents Harvey and Delia Stone; husbands Eugene Sanford and Lloyd Berg; grandson Scott Arthur Sanford; stepson Loren Berg; brothers Vincent, Vern and Vilas (Pete) Stone; sisters Victoria James and Vena Vega. Survived by sister Vivian Duntsch and husband Robert of Bozeman, MT; son Jack Sanford and wife Kayla of Omaha, NE, daughter Barbara Cable and husband Dick of Littleton, CO; stepsons Tom Berg and wife Donna of Nanabe, NM; Steve Berg and wife Debra of Richmond, VA; stepdaughter Elaine Cornett and husband Zane of Eugene, OR; 7 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great great Grandson; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Valera married Eugene in 1936 and they moved from Hawk Springs, WY to Cheyenne in 1942. They bought a business in Dalton, NE in 1952 and returned to Cheyenne in 1957, which until the last 20 years, was the only time she didn't live in Cheyenne. After Eugene's death in 1969 she married Lloyd Berg in 1971. She is a member of the Cheyenne First Presbyterian Church and the Littleton Columbine United Church. She was a member of the UPRR Old Timers Club, serving as auxiliary president for one term. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to several bridge clubs. She was the manager of the Cheyenne Pioneer Stamp Store, owner operator of the Dalton Restaurant & Hotel and worked for the Wyoming Game and Fish before leaving the formal workforce in 1971. Lloyd died in 1988 and in 1991 she moved to Littleton to live with her daughter. Visitation at Schrader's Funeral Home, 2323 Carey Ave., Cheyenne, WY, Oct. 19, 2011, 8 AM - Noon. Services Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, 2:00 PM, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Bob Garrard officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
