Verlin Reidel

January 21, 1934 — May 16, 2020

Verlin W. Reidel, 86, of Cheyenne passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2020, after a year-long battle with lung cancer.

He was born January 21, 1934, in Hayes, KS, and grew up in the Denver area.  He served in the US Army and, while stationed in Germany, met and married Rosi Boger in Frankfurt in 1959.  During their 45-year marriage, they raised three children, Patricia (Chuck) Gilmore, now of Broomfield, CO, Julie (Tracy) Stephens of Orange Park, FL, and Christopher Reidel of Denver before Rosi's death in 2004.  The family lived in Denver, Cheyenne, and Portland as Verlin worked with the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring after 43  1/2 years.

Upon his marriage to Joan Humphrey on May 30, 2009, Cheyenne again became his home, where he was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, High Plains Drifters RV club, and FMCA.

Verlin's survivors include Joan and his children; stepchildren, Lori Poole of Bayard, NE, Melanie Sonntag of Greeley, CO, and Dennis (Charlene) Humphrey of Cheyenne; sister, Darlene (Dick) Moseng of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren, Eric Stephens, Andrea Gilmore, Nicole Stephens, Matthew Gilmore, and Sam Gilmore; two great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and other extended family.

In addition to Rosi, Verlin was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Tillie (Mermis) Reidel; sister, Mary Ann Luke; and stepson, Cris Humphrey.
