Virginia Johnson, 84, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Friday morning, April 22, 2011, at Mountain Towers Healthcare Center in Cheyenne. Virginia was born February 3, 1927, in Martins Ferry, Ohio. She graduated from Martins Ferry High School and Barnes Business College. She married the love of her life, David Johnson Jr., on July 20, 1946. She worked in the accounting departments of several large businesses, including the American Automobile Association in Canton, Ohio. Virginia and Dave lived their 64 years together in Canton, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; and the last 28 years in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Virginia was devoted to her family and to helping others. She served as a volunteer for the United Medical Center Hospice in Cheyenne for eleven years and received the Hospice Johnson-Thumack award for her service, so named in her honor. She was active in the First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne, in the United Methodist Women, and was certified as Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church. Virginia was also active in the Carpenter United Methodist Church for nine years while Dave served as a Lay Pastor there. Virginia is survived by her husband Dave Johnson of Cheyenne; daughters, Bonnie Lavinder of Parker, Colorado, and Janice Ghorashi and her husband, Hossein, of Knoxville, Tennessee; son, David Johnson and his wife, Evelyn, of Canton, Ohio; sister, Helen Bierman and her husband, Charles, of San Diego, California; five grandchildren, Kristen Kemp, David Lavinder, David Johnson, Keri Johnson, and Jordan Sangid; three great-grandchildren; and many other beloved family members and friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her grandson, Carson Sangid of Knoxville, Tennessee; her son-in-law Michael Kemp of Littleton, Colorado and her parents, Edward and Carrie Jones of Martins Ferry, Ohio. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the family receiving friends in the church parlor from 1:00 to 2:15 prior to the memorial service. The Reverend Elizabeth McVicker and The Reverend Delbert Hansen will co-officiate. A reception will be held after the service in the fellowship hall at the church.
