Wayne Ernest Linton passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at Windsor Health Care Center in Windsor, CO. Wayne was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, on December 4, 1939 to Eevi and Ernest Linton. After graduating high school, Wayne came to the states to the University of Wyoming on a football scholarship. He was the first player from directly outside of the United States to play for the University of Wyoming Cowboys football team. Wayne was also a three year letterman for the Cowboys. He married Barbara Boyd on February 1, 1964, and they had two sons. After graduation from the University of Wyoming with a degree in education, Wayne taught briefly in Canada and Colorado before starting in Cheyenne in 1975. He taught at Cheyenne East and finished his teaching career at Cheyenne Central where he taught history and chemistry. Wayne loved teaching and helping his students reach their potential. Preparing students for success in college and life was his greatest reward. He also enjoyed reading, playing hockey, tinkering, golf and all dogs. Wayne also enjoyed flying, earning his private pilot's license at the age of 15 in Canada. He was especially close with his father-in-law, Neil Boyd. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Linton of Cheyenne; son, Kyle (Marcia) Linton of Wellington, CO; son, Tyler (Amy) Linton of Gahanna, OH; grandsons ,Karl and Joshua Linton, both of Gahanna, OH; brothers ,Emerson (Helen) Linton of Red Deer, Alberta, and Kenneth (Sandra) Linton of New Liskerd, Ontario; sisters Patricia (Don) Strain of Lively, Ontario, and Deb Linton; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. A memory service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 15 at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations can be sent to the Alzheimer's Association or the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
