Wayne Leslie Meese, age 78, passed away into the great beyond on April 5, 2023 in Cheyenne at home. He was born on October 15, 1944, in Cheyenne to Clarence and Margaret (Weaver) Meese. He was welcomed by an older sister, Avis.
Wayne worked as an Assistant Utilities Officer for the Wyoming Department of Transportation for 39 years and 11 months. During that time, he also served as a Laramie County Sheriff's Department Reserve Deputy for 40 years and retired as a Reserve Captain. His volunteerism continued in 2006 when he joined on with Wyoming State Parks as a Reserve Park Ranger and recently retired in February 2023. Wayne was an NRA Certified Handgun Instructor and assisted in teaching students how to shoot through the LCCC Handgun Class for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Tava Collins; son Rick Meese, grandchildren Kaitlyn, Cody, Sophie, Emma, Grace, and Rachelle; great-grandchildren Mason and Maci; sister-in-law and husband, Nancy and David Wilfahrt and son Jared and family; brother-in-law and wife, Brian and Minda Huiting and son Rocky Driggs and family, brother-in-law Stan Huiting and daughter Lexis; father-in-law and step-mother Duane and Verna Huiting; and godsons Jeff and Kevin Fanter and families. He is also survived by three first cousins, three nieces, and a multitude of great friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepdad, sister, mother-in-law, a brother-in-law and his children, and his best friend. Donations may be made to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, Black Dog Animal Rescue, or Davis Hospice Center.
Celebration of Life will be held at Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby Funeral Home on April 10, 2023 at 10 A.M. Cremated remains will be interred at Mountain View Memorial Park.
