William Roy Chavez, Sr. of Cheyenne, WY passed away Wednesday, January 3rd, 2018. He was 77 years old. He was born November 22, 1940 in Monte Aplanado, NM, in a cabin on the mountain. In 1962, he married Naomi Montano in Visalia, CA, and together they had 7 children. After a short stay in Utah, they settled in Rawlins, WY. He worked a number of various jobs, at a sawmill, in the uranium mines, as a sheepherder, and owning a small appliance store. Roy worked as a meat cutter at Safeway for 13 years. His longest standing career was working for the Union Pacific Railroad. He started out on the track crew working his way up to a brakeman, fireman, conductor and finally as engineer. He worked there for over 40 years until he retired in 2004. That's when the real fun started because after that he got to work with his sons and grandchildren, as his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family and friends. He spent time with a lot of young ones who affectionately called him Pampoo along with his grandkids. He loved telling stories and always seemed to have one for every occasion. He loved to laugh and joke around with whoever he was with. He was an excellent fisherman and hunter. One of his favorite pastimes was running the ice cream truck thru the neighborhoods of Cheyenne. He enjoyed watching his team, the Broncos play and sports in general. He had a special love for boxing as he was a Golden Gloves Champ in his younger days. He will be greatly missed by Naomi Chavez and their surviving children, Sheryl A. Chavez-Munoz (Carl Munoz), William R. Chavez Jr (Rebekah Chavez), Lonnie K. Chavez (Roberta Chavez), Brian D.
